How To Make A Bow: Ribbon Button Bow

How to make a bow

How To Make A Bow:

You Will Need...

Ribbon at least 5/8" wide

Button about 3/4" wide

Embroidery thread & needle

Step 1:

Measure out 30" of ribbon that is at least 5/8" in width.

Step 2:

Fold the ribbon end over end, almost as if you were rolling it up. This loop should be about 4" long. See photo A. How to make a bow

Step 3:

Using embroidery thread the same color as your button, send the needle up through the very center of the folded ribbon. Tie a knot in the thread on the tail end, so the thread cannot pull all the way through. This will allow you to sew the button on a little easier. See photo B. To help find the exact center, you may want to fold the looped ribbon in half, so you know where to poke the needle through.

Step 4:

Now take each loop and pull them apart from each other, sliding them out sideways. See photo C.

Step 5:

Sew on the button to the center of the bow and then knot it off in the back.

Step 6:

To finish the bow, make an angled cut on each of the tail ends. See photo D for the finished bow. Your button bow is now done!
