Thanksgiving Crafts To Make:
Indian Corn Treats

thanksgiving crafts to make

Looking for some Thanksgiving crafts to make that are kid-friendly? This is a quick and easy project that kids can do themselves. It would also make a great centerpiece for the kids' table on Thanksgiving.

What You Will Need:

  • Candy corn
  • Harvest candy corn
  • Frosting
  • Yellow crepe paper (streamers)
  • Snack sized sponge cake (Twinkie)
  • Knife and scissors

Step 1:

Cut 3 pieces of the crepe paper, each about 8” long. On each piece, cut one end into a point. These pieces of streamers will be your corn’s husk. Lay the 3 strips side by side, but slightly fanned out, on your serving plate.

Step 2:

Place the cake in the center of the streamers. Then, cover with a thick layer of frosting.

Step 3:

Now lift the two side streamers up and gently press them into the sides of the cake. Now twist the 3 bottom ends together (the ends without the points).

Step 4:

Now take your candy corn and begin pressing them down into the cake. Sink them down until only the end color on the candy corn is showing. Continue until your cake is covered in candy corn (mostly the top half) with 4 or maybe 5 rows. You can choose to use mostly regular candy corn or mostly harvest candy corn. The picture at the top of the page shows one of each.

Step 5:

If you want to add a few more husks to your corn, cut more streamers about 8” long. Add them to the side of the corn and twist the end into the already twisted end.

Your candy Indian corn treat is now finished!

This idea could easily be turned into a dessert for more grown-up tastes. Try making a pumpkin roll and covering it with cream cheese frosting. Then go ahead and cover it in candy corn in the same way. It should turn out just as cute, and then everyone’s slice of cake will have some added candy corn.
